Ability, Uncertainty, and Social Belonging for LBGQT+ Students: An ICoP Community Meeting

In the STEM career pipeline, many LGBTQIA+ students become lost. Where are the leaks in this pipeline? How big are they? What causes them and which groups are most affected? Alec Kroll, Instructor in the Chemistry Department, will share about his research project on ability uncertainty and social belonging in large chemistry classrooms. Participants will explore the culture in STEM departments on campus which may be discouraging LGBTQIA+ students from pursuing STEM careers.

Please note, this ICoP session occurs on a Tuesday.

Inclusive Community of Practice (ICoP) meetings connect equity-minded folks around campus to develop inclusive practices and policies in the classroom through sharing and curation of existing and collaboratively innovated knowledge. Weekly 75-minute meetings provide opportunities where faculty, staff and students gather to network and talk openly about diversity, inclusion, equity, and social justice. These conversations are meant to be brave spaces where faculty, staff and students can work on developing inclusive practices for the classroom.
