XSEDE HPC Workshop: MPI – September 14-15, 2021
XSEDE along with the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center is pleased to present a two-day MPI workshop.

This workshop is intended to give C and Fortran programmers a hands-on introduction to MPI programming. Both days are compact, to accommodate multiple time zones, but packed with useful information and lab exercises. Attendees will leave with a working knowledge of how to write scalable codes using MPI – the standard programming tool of scalable parallel computing.

With the demise of traditional gatekeepers, we are witnessing the rapid rise of alternative modes of both scholarly publishing and distribution as well as the artistic exhibition of computer generated works of art in digital environments. The rise of open access and collaborative platforms are in fact blurring the distinctions between publishing as a significant force of cultural activity in both contemporary art and leading-edge academic venues.

Would you like to be able to move, share or publish your software without worrying whether it will work properly on other computers? Containerization is an OS-level virtualization method used to deploy and run distributed applications without launching an entire virtual machine for each app. Containers are "stand-alone", enabling workflows to be easily packaged and shared across platforms, enhancing reproducibility and portability.

Why is the peer review process the way it is, and what exactly happens between submission and acceptance of a publication? This workshop will deconstruct peer review by outlining disciplinary practices, different types of review, and how to respond to reviewer comments, as well as interrogating the merits and drawbacks of closed door vs. open and transparent approaches. After this workshop you’ll have the knowledge you need to start hacking peer review.
